About the Inn

The original building was built in 1900 as a doll and quilt factory. It was known as Ruby Short-Mckim's studio or Kimport Dolls from the early 1900s until the 1980s. Ruby Short-Mckim was an extraordinary woman. She had a very successful business designing
quilts. She had her own mail-order catalog, syndicated newspaper column and even wrote a book. From the proceeds of the book, she Best B&B in Kansas City 2003, Kansas City Magazinetoured Europe and brought back porcelain dolls. There was so much interest in the dolls she brought back that she began making porcelain dolls, too. Then in 1987, Charles Woodstock and Lane and Ruth Harold bought the building and turned it into an 11-room bed and breakfast, and the Woodstock Inn was born.

The current owners/Innkeepers, Todd and Patricia Justice, have not made many structural changes, but have changed the decor and furnishings to add their own personalities to the interior. You’ll notice many furnishings and treasures that hale from their travels all over Asia, Europe, and South America. The front parlor features art and the Upstairs Lounge offers glimpses of Ecuador and Venezuela. If you want to know the story behind a particular piece, just ask!
